YOUTH EXCHANGE
INBOUND
Each year the Janesville Rotary hosts one or two international students from any one of the following countries: EUROPE: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine ASIA: India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand CENTRAL AMERICA: Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico SOUTH AMERICA: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE: Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe
The ages of these students is from 16-19 years old. They are typically hosted by three families for four months each. Hosting is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family. Each family member is able to interact with an international student, perhaps learning some of their language, certainly learning some of their culture and how it differs from ours. Greater understanding is created between different nationalities.
Following is a list of students involved in our Exchange Program

SCHOLARSHIP
Every year the Janesville Noon Rotary Club awards ten scholarships to Janesville and Milton High School Seniors. To decide who best qualifies for the scholarships, a committee is formed of Rotarians to screen, interview and select the most deserving students. The process includes separate meetings at each of the three high schools to first screen the applicants and then interview 5 to 8 final candidates from each school. Noon Rotary offers two $1,000 and two $500 scholarships each to recipients from Craig and Parker High Schools and one $1,000 and one $500. scholarships to a recipients from Milton High School. In addition two
WASHINGTON SEMINAR
Janesville Rotary Club has financially contributed to a program at Parker High School called Washington Seminar ever since it began. The program is classroom study of politcal issues that are discussed in the classroom, and each student takes a particular area of interest to pursue, study, and report on. This includes a field research trip to Washington D.C. to meet with representatives, senators, and aids to learn about their area of interest.
GIRLS & BOYS STATE
For many years, Janesville Rotary Club has sponsored students from our local high schools to Badger Girls State and Badger Boys State. Criteria for selection include strong character and interest in government; leadership and participation in extra-curricular and academic activities; and service to the school and community. This is a very worthwhile learning experience for students. They participate in running for an office like one would do in local politics and then, act out their position in the one week they are at the event. Back to top |
