we honor Mr. William H. Smith

 

1.      DIAPER:          I am sure glad his mother put a diaper on him

2.      GLEAM:   look at that gleam in his eye, even at this age would you trust this kid                                                          around your daughter?

3.      MR. Innocent:

4.      HIGH SCHOOL PRINCETON: Bill went to H.S. in Princeton Il where he was Mr Football I wish they could have gotten him matching shoes

5.      41 Grad: from Princeton HS not THE Princeton

6.      WILD OATS:

7.      AAC Nov of 42: B-24 Trainer: HD46: bill enlisted in the Army Air Corp – he was attached to the B-24 group as a trainer. As Bill says, “I fought the battle of California” because that is where he ended up being stationed for the duration. Bill received an honorable discharge in 1946

8.      NIU47: BS SOC SCI: PE49: Vclub: KATE: Bill went back to Northern Illinois and Graduated in 47 with BS in Social Science. He received his Masters in Physical Education in 49 and is the oldest living member of the “Varsity Club” during this period he met his beautiful future wife Kate.

9.      56yr blind date: red dodge: 52 married: bill said that they met on a blind date and it has been 56 years long blind date that started in a red Dodge convertible. Bill and Kate were married in Appleton in 1952.

10.    TAUGHT 47: 49/57 Cen Soya: bill working career started in 47 where he taught hs in Illinois.  In 49 he went to work for Central Soya in their sales department and stayed until 1957.                                                                                                                           In June of 57 the smiths came to Janesville where bill worked for Wayne feeds and then owned Smith Feed Service and Master Feed on Rockport Road until he sold it in 1985

11.    ROTARY 1965: Hard to get in: SC, Horse, Beer Chair: Physical&shovel CC LADIES NIGHT & PH: bill said back then Rotary was extremely hard to get into. 100% attendance was completely expected back then and that he is very proud to have served on the board for many years to remember. He was also scholarship chair and beer tent chair for many years. Bill says some of us that complain about having to work the Corn Roast should have worked the Horse Shows because they were a lot more physical. When I asked him why did we stop he said “business people didn’t like shoveling Manure” Bill said some of the  best memories from Rotary were when we would have a ladies night at the country club  with a band for dancing and receiving his Paul Harris fellow designation.

12.    37bowl: as you can see by this picture Bill also enjoyed the 37 years of Rotary bowling I don’t know what this smile was for

13.    Love Of BB Bill and Kate have had a lifelong love of baseball. The caption is a little misleading because it is a baseball picture with son Charlie but bill was the only Lutheran coach in the diocese of Madison when he coached football at St.Williams.  Bill was involved in Baseball inc for 23 years and a prized memory was winning the little league title in the 1960’s   

14.    ST LOUIS FANS: Kate and Bill have always been StLouis card fans.  she loves baseball I would really feel sorry for her if she didn’t

·        In asking bill about his life experiences, he said he could go into that.

·        I got those same answers from his friends when I asked about bowling experiences.

·        Bills Philosophy on life: One Gun, One Dog, and a good Wife.

I would like to end with bill’s very profound answer to my question of  what is your dream for the future, bill looked at me and said “ I hope I am going to be here tomorrow”
